It’s a case of man’s best friend serving as man’s best man, and we would love to see more weddings just like it.

U.S. Army Veteran Justin Lansford and his golden retriever, Gabe, have been through a lot of battles together. The companionship between the canine and Lansford started in 2012, after the paratrooper lost his leg to an IED explosion during deployment in Afghanistan, reports ABC News.

Lansford returned home to recover at Walter Reade National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and was paired with the 2-year-old Gabe through the Warrior Canine Connection. Through the WCC, the recently graduated golden learned how to offer support to veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Gabe is great at his job. Every day the gentle and attentive dog helps Lansford complete daily tasks and handle his prosthetic leg, but more importantly, Gabe has helped his human BFF greet his life with optimism. It is this gift that landed the pup one of the top spots at Lansford’s recent wedding to longtime sweetheart, Carol Balmes.

After helping Lansford propose to Balmes on Veteran’s Day last year, Gabe was by his owner’s side again on the big day serving as best man. The dog wore his finest vest for the ceremony in Largo, Florida, on Saturday. Gabe’s other duties included supporting his owner at the altar, taking photos with the guests and just generally looking cute.
