A WALK TO REMEMBER
It seems a meow for help sounds the same in any language. That's what a woman named Margaux heard in January when she was out for a walk at night in Rouen, France, and first spotted Cookie the kitten — this week's #cutepic winner — dirty, alone and in need of a helping hand. "He seemed so sad with his despondent look," Margaux recalls, "He seemed so lost … He looked so alone, we did not hesitate. We brought him at home." A vet exam would reveal that the cat had conjunctivitis and no previous owner, "so we adopted him!" she tells PEOPLE.

UP IN THE AIR
This playful 5-month-old lives the high life in a small abode in Rouen, situated on the river Seine. "He loves to jump everywhere he can," says Margaux, a student. "He lives in an apartment so he loves to sit at the edge of the window to watch walkers in the street! And feel the fresh air, and lazing in the sun! He always tries to [climb] further on the roofs, but he always comes back with noise of his mouse!"

Among Cookie's likes are his toy mouse — so much so that he'll doze off for a cat nap next to it. A nap could easily be disrupted, however, by the Siamese lynx point's mortal enemy: the vacuum cleaner.

The energetic kitten would very much love to have a garden to explore — "It's for this, he often meows at the window" — and one day he will, Margaux says. For now, their motto is: "Les petits plaisirs, font les grands bonheurs," or, "Small pleasures make great happiness."

Clearly the kitty, whose piercing blue eyes really pop on his Instagram page, has tales to tell from his time on the streets. "One of the things [that] makes him unique is he answers in meowing when we talk to him," Margaux tells PEOPLE.
