WATCH: Smithsonian's Polar Bear Town Shows the Thousands of Daring Tourists Who Meet the Bears Each Year

Posted on

Are you daring enough to base jump? Walk a tight rope blindfolded? Meet a polar bear up close and personal?

Each year, thousands of tourists take on the last challenge while visiting Churchill, Manitoba, better known as Polar Bear Town, to see these stunning and powerful animals.

With only a population of 800, Churchill residents work each year to accommodate 10,000 tourists and the 1,000 migrating polar bears they have come to see.

The Smithsonian Channel followed the busy season of this unique town for their new show Polar Bear Town.

In the clip above, bear guides take a group of stuffed animal toting tourists to see the polar bears. How will the giant mammals respond to plush toys and strange costumes? Watch and find out.

To get more face time with these beautiful creatures, watch Polar Bear Town on the Smithsonian Channel on Nov. 16 at 8 p.m.
