Jose had sadly accepted that he would never see his lost dog again, and then the phone rang.

According to The Mirror, the Columbus, Wisconsin, man had to part with his pooch Chaos, who he got as a puppy, after falling on hard times. Divorced, living in his car and unable to care properly for Chaos, Jose decided to put the dog in the care of a friend.

Three months later, Jose was doing well once more; the owner called his friend to pick up the dog, but the friend refused to return Chaos. Jose tried to track down his loyal canine, but was unable to find him. After two years of searching, Jose received an email reminding him to keep his dog’s microchip information up to date, which ignited the pain of losing Chaos all over again.

But this agony was soon alleviated by Winnebago County Animal Services, who called Jose to say Chaos was in their care and was ready to come home. The dog ended up at the Illinois shelter after being found abandoned at the end of a driveway, a quick scan of the pooch revealed a microchip with Jose’s information.

“I was speechless and I couldn’t stop smiling. I just couldn’t believe it,” Jose said. “I couldn’t get to the shelter fast enough. I couldn’t wait for it to open so I could see Chaos.”

It’s obvious that Chaos was missing his best friend, too. In video of their reunion, the dog instantly recognizes his owner and turns into a flurry of excited kisses, hugs and tail wags.
