Who is the real Bo Obama?
Is he, as Cesar Millan suggests, poorly trained, with a tendency to lead instead of follow?
According to his trainer, Dawn Sylvia-Stasiewcz, the First Dog is extremely well-behaved and is a wonderful dog.
“When you see those pictures of the dog pulling someone, you don’t know what’s going on around them,” she told POLITICO. “It could have been a Secret Service agent who was in the background saying, ‘Hey.’”
Sylvia-Stasiewcz, who co-authored the book The Love That Dog Training Program, was introduced to the Obamas through the late Senator Ted Kennedy and his wife, Vicki, who both had Portuguese water dogs. Bo, who was formerly named Charlie, was part of the same litter as one of the Kennedys’ dogs.
Bo stayed with Sylvia-Stasiewcz for a few months on her property so that she could train him before he met his new family. She made sure that he was house-trained and got him accustomed to “anything and everything that he may come in contact with in our human world in his lifetime.”
Now that Bo is a big boy in the White House, Sylvia-Stasiewcz feels confident that he’s still as well-behaved as when she worked with him. “I think [the Obamas] are doing a good job,” she said.
