Not everyone’s gotta catch ‘em all: Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is speaking out against the Pokémon franchise upon the release of its latest video game. “If PETA existed in Unova, our motto would be: Pokémon are not ours to use or abuse. They exist for their own reasons. We believe this is the message that should be sent to children,” the organization said via statement. –Forbes

A 50-foot finback whale was found dead in Boston Harbor, coast guard officials reported. Authorities have yet to determine a cause of death, and a necropsy is set to take place for the whale, whose body was found early Sunday. –AP

Tourists aren’t the only ones New Yorkers have to share space with. Residents in Brooklyn are at odds with neighborhood raccoons whom they say are becoming pests in their own backyards. One local is organizing a “Raccoon Summit” public meeting, scheduled for Oct. 17, to discuss the problem. –CBS New York

Tofik the giraffe died during an operation for digestive problems, officials at the Poland zoo where he lived said Monday. The 5-year-old male previously survived a May criminal attack, which ultimately claimed the lives of his two female companions at the time. –AP
