The Daily Treat: Meet a Mountain-Climbing Rescue Cat

Posted on

Purr-fect is the best way to describe Craig Armstrong’s unique mountain-climbing partner.

He adopted the stunning black feline named Millie from an animal shelter in Park City, Utah, and she is all he ever wanted in a sidekick.

“I go on a lot of weekend climbing adventures. I always figured when I have a pet friend, I’ll take her with me,” Armstrong tells Bored Panda. “It never seemed odd to me, just seems like something I’d do with my pet, take her places.”

The places this pussycat has seen would make many humans jealous. Amazing shots on Armstrong’s Instagram page show the kitty climbing rocks at Utah’s Sands Flats Recreation Area, surveying the breathtakingly picturesque Little Wild Horse canyon in the San Rafael Swell, and standing tall on top of the sunny Stansbury mountain range.

Armstrong says mountain climbing is the ideal activity for his athletic cat, who is known to hitch a ride in his backpack. “She literally loves to climb things if there’s high-ground she’ll seek it out,” he said. But clearly not every kitty is born for the high life. Millie, says Armstrong, has had a lot of practice.

“Get them used to their name and to you as a safe place,” he advises. “In talus fields or thick woods she’ll get distracted and climb trees or explore tiny caves and under boulders and stop following sometimes. It’s taken a lot of practice and many trips to get Millie to the point where she follows me down a trail past areas like thickets that would have distracted her otherwise.”
