The Daily Treat: Goldfish Keeps Swimmin' with Handmade Life Jacket

Posted on

We think Albert Einstein would agree: Einstein the fish is the owner of one impressive invention.

After the goldfish developed swim bladder disorder, a common affliction for aquarium dwellers, Einstein’s owner crafted a makeshift life jacket to keep his buddy from struggling.

“He’s always been a fighter, so when he sunk to the bottom one day and couldn’t get back up, it was a very sorry sight,” warehouse worker Leighton Naylor of Blackpool, England, tells The Telegraph. “It broke my heart to see him so helpless. He looked so depressed.”

Naylor created a frame from recycled tubing that keeps Einstein afloat and swimming (see the fish in action below). “I wanted to build something that would allow Einstein to move his fins a little bit and be comfortable at the same time,” he adds.

“He wasn’t too keen on the idea. He kept catching on to plants and getting stuck, but since I’ve rearranged the tank to make it disability friendly, he’s been absolutely fine.”
