B IS FOR BABOON
“ZooBorns has always been about educating while we entertain,” says ZooBorns creator Andrew Bleiman. “For adults, that’s not hard. For little kids, that’s a little harder. You can teach them their ABCs, and you can start building this appreciation in them for fascinating, exotic animals.”

C IS FOR CHEETAH
While some letters came with a multitude of options, Bleiman says, “It was hard to find anything that went with X, U and Y. Figuring out the animal is challenging and finding a great photo is really challenging.”

D IS FOR DHOLE
Bleiman and his co-creator Chris Eastland searched around the world for a photo of the Ural owl, the animal they used to illustrate the letter U. “The alternative would be an urchin,” says Eastland, “but a baby urchin I don’t think many zoos or aquariums have stock photos of baby urchins.”

F IS FOR FLAMINGO
“There’s a lot we can do with the book, and the book is shockingly adorable, but there’s so much more you can do with an app,” Bleiman says. “We can include many, many more pictures – four images for every single species.”

G IS FOR GIRAFFE
The app comes kid-approved, Eastland confirms. “When my sister-in-law was calling my niece over to have ice cream after dinner, my niece would typically run for it, but she was so engaged with [using the app] that she said, ‘No, I’m busy with this.’”
