She was injured and lying on the floor of a bathroom with large gashes on her front paws when police found her.
According to the Seattle Police Department’s crime news blog, it is believed the 7-year-old Lab mix named Egypt was injured defending her home against a suspected burglar.
Seattle police discovered the pooch on Monday after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor who had seen someone running from the home.
When officers arrived, they heard a dog barking and saw blood on a couch inside. When they got in via a broken window, they found Egypt and jumped into action.
Officers William Miller and Ian Walsh comforted Egypt, the blog reports, while Officer Gordon Bentler bandaged her wounds with medical supplies. They contacted the pup’s owner, who returned to the house and took her to a vet for treatment.
“She has always taken her job as an alert dog very seriously,” Egypt’s owner said, “making sure everyone is aware when the postal worker has arrived.”
The hero pup, who her owner describes as a “fast mountain adventure dog,” is doing well and will undergo surgery for her injuries, the report said.
