For actress Nikki Reed, it’s all about animals – all the time.
“I’m on my way to pick up my new baby rat,” Reed, 26, told PEOPLE at an event celebrating the launch of Parker on the new shopping app, Spring. “I’m animal obsessed! I basically have a farm in my house.”
“I do feel like by buying rats from a pet store, you are saving them because if not, they would get fed to a snake or something,” she added, in between layering Parker looks with jewelry from Stella and Bow and picking up skincare from the Caudalie Beauty Bar.
Rats aside, Reed has “two horses, my two German shepherds, my mom’s dog, and then I sort of adopted another three dogs,” she says.
That’s nine total.
“Animals are my life. My mom and I built a guest house on my property so that my mom could help me fostering animals. I do multiple fosters a month,” she explains. “Sometimes I get a litter of nine puppies and put them in a nursery I created. And in the backyard, I also have an outdoor setup that’s actually enclosed so the hawks can’t get to it.”
In addition to her foster work, in support of Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month (October), Reed is designing a limited-edition Found My Animal leash and collar (available exclusively on Gilt) with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to the ASPCA.
