Cats around the world are gearing up for Mother’s Day, adopting orphaned babies into their paws, no matter what species. First a kitty in Michigan took on a foster puppy, and now a Ukraine feline is nursing two baby squirrels.

According to WFLA, the two red squirrels were found abandoned on the road by a pair of police officers. Unsure how to care for the animals, the cops brought the babies to a local zoo.

A member of the zoo’s management crew, Karina Vengrovska, had an idea and agreed to take the squirrels home, where she introduced them to her cat. Vengrovska’s cat recently gave birth to a litter of kittens and must have been in a giving mood, because the new mom immediately welcomed the squirrels into the group.

Perhaps Vengrovska foresaw this meet cute when she named her kitty Belka, which means squirrel in Russian (and Ukrainian). Regardless, the new family is getting along just fine. Once the squirrels are strong enough they will be moved into an enclosure at the zoo which features other red squirrels.
