A puppy found in the streets of LaPlace, Louisiana, with its throat and mouth taped shut is expected to make a full recovery.

Otis the pup was discovered in the streets of St. John the Baptist parish last week with his neck and muzzle tightly wrapped in electrical tape, reports WDSU. The pit bull mix also had two broken toes.

The dog’s rescuer quickly rushed Otis to a nearby animal shelter for help. From the shelter the puppy was sent to Vet Naturally to receive free treatment from the animal hospital’s staff.

Veterinarian Ashley Geoghegan believes that the attack on Otis could be a copycat case of the incident in South Carolina involving Caitlyn the dog. Caitlyn went through reconstructive surgery after she was left with her tongue tightly taped between her teeth for days.

Luckily, Otis’ injuries were less serious than Caitlyn’s. The puppy is currently recovering at his foster home.

The St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office has launched a criminal investigation into the animal cruelty case. A $700 reward is being offered to anyone who can provide information that well help police arrest Otis’ abuser.
