The skies might have been gray last Sunday, but the atmosphere in New York City’s Washington Square Park was buoyant. Lots of warmth was in the air thanks to all the animal adoptions happening at Adoptapalooza!

PEOPLEPets.com joined with the NYC Mayor’s Alliance for the city’s second mega-adoption event, and we’re thrilled to announce that lots of dogs and cats found new forever homes that day. Big thanks are due to everyone who stopped by and everyone involved – thanks for standing outside in the rain to support the city’s shelter pets!

The event would not have been a success without the help of trainers Kate Perry and Robert Haussmann, who donated their time to teach dog owners how to live better with their furballs (we all get vexed sometimes). Photographer Martha Thorneloe took some beautiful photographs inside and out of the PEOPLEPets.com booth (check out the gallery here).

Thank you to everyone who provided must-have items for our new pet starter kits, which would not have been the same without goodies from Paul Frank/26 Bars and a Band, Animal Planet/TFH, Animal Planet/Merchsource, Bags on Board, Cloudstar, Kong, Nylabone, Opie & Dixie, PETCO and Wellness Pet Food. And our raffle winners were thrilled to receive their prizes – so thank you to Daryl Roth, SPOT Daycare, Shaina Fishman Photography for providing the gifts.

Most of all, thanks to all those who adopted pets on Sunday – your commitment to shelter animals is inspiring!
