This cat knows the only proper way to start the year is to put on a giant feather boa and a strand of pearls. “This guy wouldn’t quit looking at me. Just kept meowing and meowing at me,” says photographer Ren Netherland.

The look of love is definitely in their eyes. Miss February treats her special someone to something really special: an orange tabby massage. These two babies were photographed by Netherland 22 years ago, for a shelter that was looking to find homes for their animals. Their love is timeless!

Originally, the gumball machine was just filled with gumballs, but Miss April wasn’t interested. So Netherland replaced the gumballs with his aquarium and suddenly, he had the cat’s attention.

Netherland had a serial smiler on his hands with Miss May, and he asked her owner whether or not the cat ever closed her mouth. “She really likes you!” her owner said.

But Miss May’s owner loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, so Netherland thought he would try putting some doggles on the cat. Presto –she stopped smiling and turned into a serious biker chick.

Some cats aren’t into head gear, but Netherland says Miss August rather enjoyed her fishing hat. She might have thought it meant she was going to get some fish for dinner.

Netherland says this cat might look fearsome, but she was “just talkin’.” Probably saying something like, “What do you mean, I have to go back to school?”

“Real bubbles, real cat,” Netherland says. Miss November floats just as delicately as the iridescent balls, don’t you think? A reason to be thankful, indeed.
