Hank Azaria's Simpsons Voices Fail to Impress His 15-Year-Old Cat Ooby

Posted on

Hank Azaria‘s 15-year-old cat, Ooby, is actually his “step cat.”

“My wife [Katie Wright] found this cat when she was living in Rome,” he tells PEOPLE in this week’s Sexiest Man Alive issue. “She adopted him and brought him stateside and we fell in love and then the cat was part of the package deal.”

While the Simpsons star and executive producer of the upcoming series Brockmire says Ooby is “very mellow” for the most part, the pair do have their hostile moments.

“He is a bit obsessed with trying to kill me,” he says. “He tries to guide you where his food is, but that ends up basically tripping you, and then, even when you’re heading towards his food, he’ll still try to herd you towards the food and try to make you fall and die. We actually made up a graphic of Making a Murderer with his picture on it. That’s how much he likes to do that.”

Azaria’s star power has little to no effect on the Italian stray. When using all three of his impressive Simpsons voices — Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum and Apu Nahasapeemapetilon — for Ooby, the cat couldn’t care less.

“If I died right now he’d be like, ‘Oh, he’s dead, guess I won’t bother him for food anymore,'” laughs Azaria.

Jokes aside, the actor appreciates the cat in more ways than one. “He’s very loving and cats are really cool. They’re like little living pieces of art; they’re so beautiful,” he says. “My son loves him. He’s a member of the family.”
