Time to exit? Not quite yet! The tiny critter – who was persuaded to pose with crackers, Belanger says – checks the platform to see whether she’s going uptown or downtown.

Almost home! Edie enjoys the view while “riding” a model of a New York City subway train – the 4 express line.

Belanger says her hamster is very tame. “I got her at a pet store when she was very young – she’s my third hamster – and I find that if you treat them well and are consistent in their care and attention, they’ll be tame and sweet.”

Edie waits patiently for her train to pull into the station. Wonder where she’s headed: Grand Central? Yankee Stadium? Wall Street? The possibilities are endless!
