MY FAIR LADY
When designer Kiki Hamann set out to find clothes for her Chihuahua, she found nothing that suited her style. So she created her own line, Canine Couture, and has since made pieces like this one, the Eliza ($600-$1200), which is modeled after the Ascot dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in the 1964 film My Fair Lady.

LILY OF THE VALLEY
This dress, the Alexandra ($600), is hand-crafted, like all Hamann’s pieces. She airbrushes the fabric to give it a jeweled look, and pieces on the pearls one-by-one to make the lilies of the valley along the back. The entire dress is modeled after a Faberge egg.

The Andalusia was partly inspired by Hamann’s homebase of Miami. Drawn from flamenco inspirations, this bold red-and-black dress comes with a pillbox hat. Hamann says the Andalusia is “designed exclusively for intense personalities.” It is sold out.

Hamann doesn’t just make dresses – Canine Couture also offers luxury leather pouches, which double as beds and carriers. This particular model, embellished with crystals and made from Italian leather and faux rabbit fur, can carry up to 10 lbs. of pooch and costs $750.

For the discerning owner who needs something sturdier than a pouch, Hamann offers leather handbags that stand up on their own, even with pooch inside. This pink edition, called the 2Divas, comes with a special charm and a safety chain ($1300).

Hamann’s dresses cost about $600 for most small dogs, but she has created looks for Great Danes – and those pieces cost upwards of $1,000! “A Great Dane is a person, it really is,” she says. “We’re talking about a 200-lb. dog. It’s as much fabric as a human would wear.”

RED CARPET READY
Hamann’s clients usually have a specific event in mind when they ask for a custom look. “Outfits to attend the red carpet, the opera – I’ve done so much, and it’s so much fun.” The designer has even created dresses for dogs that are carried down the aisle by the bride – in lieu of a bouquet.

FORM AND FUNCTION
The former painter and sculptor loves making beautiful looks, but they also have to be practical. All of Hamann’s dresses have clips on the back for leashes, and she has made sure to get each outfit’s proportions tailored correctly. “There’s a different way a dress lies when it’s on a dog,” she says.
