Edie Falco brought in the big guns for a charity event Thursday in New York City – her own!
The Nurse Jackie star met a fat cat – 33-lb. Sponge Bob – at SoHo-based shelter Animal Haven’s 2nd Annual Performance for the Animals, and easily lifted up the outsize cat.
“I have an 85-lb. dog at home!” she explained to handlers at the event. Falco kept the 9-year-old cat in her arms for several minutes while she did interviews with press, and later remarked that he was “sweet.”
Sponge Bob, who was surrendered to Animal Haven after his elderly owner had to be moved to a nursing home, also seemed comfortable and calm with Falco, perhaps because of a happy turn of events: He has been adopted.
His new owners are a New York City couple who are “committed to providing him with a healthier and more active lifestyle than in his previous home,” says Animal Haven’s Steve Schonberg. They have even started up a blog about Sponge Bob and his new adventures.
