Nearing the end of an intense, exhausting and dramatic campaign with Donald Trump, Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence has suffered an upsetting personal loss.

On Wednesday, the Indiana governor announced on Twitter that his dog, Maverick, had passed away.

Pence posted the sad news along with a photo of he and his wife Karen, with Maverick tucked in between them.

“Heavy hearts today. Our beagle of 13 years passed away quietly last night. Rest In Peace, Maverick. We will miss you,” Pence wrote with the photo of his dear friend.

Regardless of your politics, I think we can all agree that the loss of pet is an emotional and indescribable hard time for the owners.

Our hearts go out to Pence, not as a vice presidential candidate, but as a man who has lost a loyal companion.
