Two important props could translate to a Tony award for a barking Broadway star: a stick of gum and a piece of tape.

Confused? Allow theatrical animal trainer Bill Berloni to explain.

In this clip from his new series From Wags to Riches with Bill Berloni, premiering on Aug. 6 at 9 p.m. on Discovery Family Channel, Berloni demonstrates how he creatively trained one dog to limp on cue.

“I had a dog a long time ago, who when she stepped in a piece of gum would put her foot up,” he says. “So I’m going to try to create a similar sort of reminder for Sunny to hold her foot up.”

The trick works like a charm for Sunny, the former shelter pup who was plucked by Berloni from obscurity and went on to star in the Broadway revival of Annie.

For an inside look at Berloni’s wild life – with over 40 pets! – and more behind-the-scenes tricks for training pups for showbiz, watch From Wags to Riches every Thursday in PAW-gust.
