It’s Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog month and in honor of the wonderful rescue dogs out there, we’re introducing you to pets-in-waiting all throughout October. Today, we’d like you to meet Scruffy, a happy terrier mix who’s searching for a dedicated owner to help with his separation anxiety.
Does Scruffy’s face seem familiar to you? That’s because he’s a dead ringer for Uggie, the adorable furry star of 2011’s The Artist, and just like his onscreen alter ego, Scruffy is extremely loyal.
Not too long ago, he charmed someone into bringing him home from the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter in Fryeburg, Me., but, sadly, he was returned because of a lifestyle change.
His previous owner discovered the dog has separation anxiety and whenever he is left alone he becomes destructive. They began the crate training process and also taught him some basic commands. Now, Scruffy needs an owner willing to continue the training. The best candidate, says the shelter, would be a person who works from home.
But don’t let Scruffy’s special circumstances deter you: The 4-year-old is a sweetheart, walks great on a leash and adores laying in the sun. Cats and dogs are his friends but be sure to avoid car trips as they make him sick.
If you’re ready to be Scruffy’s buddy, contact the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter at (207)935-4358.

Adopting a pet is an amazing experience – and a big decision! Before bringing a pet into your home it’s important to consider your family circumstances and do your research on breeds.
