Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Meet Jude, a Yorkshire terrier rescued from a puppy mill at age 9.
For almost a decade, Jude produced puppies for a breeder at an Ohio puppy mill. When she came to the Joyful Rescues animal rescue of Cuba, N.Y., last fall, she was quiet and didn’t want to be touched.
But what a huge difference a few months of TLC makes. “She has come such a long way,” says Joyful Rescues volunteer Pamela Wolfram. “She can now walk on a leash and enjoys being on my lap. She even trusts me enough to fall asleep while there.”
Jude’s coat, which was “a mess” and bald in many places, is now soft and healthy, and has almost completely grown in.
“She is a beautiful girl,” says Wolfram, adding that Jude has some very distinct features. “One of the staff called her a ‘reverse vampire’ because her fangs are on the bottom.”
The 10-lb. pooch, who waddles around adorably on her short little legs, is now happy to see people and is excited by all the new things she’s discovering in this next chapter of her life.
“Jude will warn you if something exciting is going on by barking,” Wolfram says. “She is quite the character trying to get away to explore some place new.”
