Adopt Me! Pit Bull Mix Amanda Is a Neglect Survivor

Posted on

Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Meet Ms. Amanda Jones, an 8-year-old dog who has bounced back from a rough past.

This pit bull terrier mix lost an eye after being rescued from a hoarding situation. Amanda and over 100 dogs were saved by a nonprofit group, and many of them needed medical attention. When she arrived at California’s Downtown Dog Rescue in 2010, she was severely underweight and her injured left eye couldn’t be saved.

“Her spirits were low and she had no trust in people,” says rescue spokeswoman Lori Weise. It didn’t take long for the sweet dog to realize that people aren’t all bad. In her time with the group, she has really turned around – mentally and physically.

“She is now a happy, healthy dog who loves to ride in the car, go on walks and goes to work most days with her foster mom,” she says. “She would make a wonderful apartment or condo type dog because she is older and has a lower energy level.”

The fact that Amanda is missing an eye doesn’t pose any problems for her either. “She has no health issues and no physical issues with navigation,” says Weise. “She climbs two flights of stairs every day to my office like a cat.”

A couple of nice walks a day, an opportunity to sunbathe, a wardrobe full of clothes – she loves to dress up! – and Amanda would be “in heaven,” says Weise. Toss in a cozy dog bed and she’ll be on cloud nine.

If you think this pup sounds like the perfect companion, call the Downtown Dog Rescue at 818-407-4145 or email to get more details. To read more about her, visit her profile page.
