Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to extraordinary adoptable pets every week. Today, we’d like you to meet Diesel, an American pit bull who is a big baby at heart.
The 10-month-old dog could have used some comfort when he was a smaller puppy. He came to the North Shore Animal League America of Port Washington, N.Y., in January from Huntsville, Ala. The charming pup was adopted right away, but his owners returned him after only a couple of months due to his growing size and a skin condition. The poor pup was suffering from demodectic mange, and as bad luck would have it, got pneumonia on top of it, forcing him to be hospitalized.
Thankfully, Diesel made it through that rough patch and now he’s healthy and happy – but he is still hoping to find a family to love him.
“Don’t let his size fool you,” says Lindsey Calabrese of the NSALA. “He is a big baby looking for someone with an active lifestyle and a nice yard he can run around in.”
His ideal owner would be someone athletic who has a canine companion that welcomes other dogs, especially one with a bit of fame to his name: Diesel posed with NSALA spokesperson Beth Stern for the group’s 2014 calendar over the summer.

Adopting a pet is an amazing experience – and a big decision! Before bringing a pet into your home it’s important to consider your family circumstances and do your research on breeds.
