Home: Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary, adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Chance, a sweet, loyal boy available through the Wolcott Dog Pound in Wolcott, Connecticut.
According to a Facebook post by the pound, Chance was found wandering an intersection in April. The shelter learned a lot about the stray when they scanned his microchip. They located an owner who said he had given Chance to another person, who, as it turns out, was neglectful to the dog.
“Chance was not in the best of conditions [when he was found],” the post says. “Chance was very thin, has urine stains on his bottom and his under carriage and his tail, he has severe skin dermatitis, his nails were curled and broken, he has pressure sores on rear and chew marks on his paws from stress and boredom. Chance’s pads were bleeding. All of this is conclusive with Chance being left in a crate or kennel in his own urine and feces and in filthy conditions and poor diet.”
The dog’s original owner was heartbroken when he saw what had happened to Chance, the post said. The shelter explained that they were not looking for him to take Chance back, but to have him sign the dog over to them in hopes of finding him a good home, and the owner cooperated.
The shelter came to find out that Chance is deaf and could use some basic obedience training. “Chance shows no signs of what he has been through,” the post says. “Chance will cower to certain things but he WILL not leave your side.”
