Elizabeth Edwards Tends to 'Gravely Ill' Mother

Originally posted 10/10/2008 06:45PM

Elizabeth Edwards has canceled all of her October speaking engagements so she can care for her "gravely ill" mother, it was announced Friday.

Detroit's Metro Parent Magazine said in a press release that among the speeches Edwards will miss is a magazine-sponsored address next week.

Her mother, Elizabeth Thweatt Anania, 85, lives in a nursing facility near Edwards's Chapel Hill, N.C., home and has been in declining health since losing her husband in March, Edwards' brother, Jay Anania, told PEOPLE in August.

On top of her father's death, her own battle with cancer and the public exposure of her 55-year-old husband John's affair, Elizabeth Edwards, 59, has this year "also been dealing with my mother's very, very difficult handling of her husband's passing after 60 years together," says Jay Anania. "It's extremely difficult what my mother's going through and that's just down the street from Elizabeth."

Just days after going to New Orleans with Angelina Jolie and the kids to visit the site of his environmentally friendly housing project Make it Right, Brad Pitt on Friday headed to the set of his new World War II drama Inglorious Bastards in Germany.

Pitt, 44, who plays Lt. Aldo Raine in the Quentin Tarantino-directed film, will be shooting in two locations outside Berlin: at a period farmhouse in a village outside of Dresden and in the spa town Bad Schandau.

Jolie, 33, and the couple's children – who visited New York last week for the premiere of Jolie's movie Changeling – are expected to leave the French chateau where the family has been living since May and join Pitt in Berlin.

While Mark Wahlberg is thrilled to be a third-time dad – to son Brendan Joseph, born in September – Brendan's 2-year-old brother Mike has a few reservations about the new family addition.

"My son is completely frustrated because he was the baby," Wahlberg, 37, said during an interview Thursday on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. "He literally said, 'The baby has to go to Florida!' "

"That's the only full sentence he's said," Wahlberg added.

Big sister Ella, 5, had the opposite reaction. "My daughter's thrilled," Wahlberg said. "She thinks she has a little baby – a little plaything."

Katie Holmes Piques Eli Stone's Interest

Originally posted 10/10/2008 12:40PM

Channeling '40s screen siren Rita Hayworth – with a far gutsier singing voice than might be expected – Katie Holmes suggestively belts "Hit Me with a Hard Note" for a dream sequence to air on the Oct. 21 episode of ABC's Eli Stone, previewed here.

Holmes is due to guest-star as Grace, a non-profit attorney with a mysterious case – and a large orchestra accompaniment. She goes into her tune during one of Eli's visions. Jonny Lee Miller plays Eli.

There's also a second clip of Eli helping Grace out at a baseball game on E! online.
