Selena Gomez is extolling the benefits of her self-imposed 90-day break from social media and the spotlight last year, and revealing why she’s made honesty her policy when it comes to what she shares with fans.

“I haven’t really been all over the place lately and that’s kind of intentional,” Gomez admitted during an interview with Elvis Duran on Monday. “I think it’s important to balance out where I am and I’ve been doing this for a really long time and my sanity has meant everything to me, and a lot of that is my faith.”

Gomez explained that she was “very vocal” about her break because she sees value in her vulnerability.

The 24-year-old said, “I can’t sit there and pretend that everything is good because I’ve done that for years, and it doesn’t really work for me.”

Also on Monday, while appearing on SiriusXM’s Morning Mash Up, Gomez touched on her relationship with singer the Weeknd, who she was first spotted with in January.

Asked about her and longtime pal Taylor Swift‘s “new people” (the latter is dating Joe Alwyn), Gomez replied, “I hang out with my new person a lot.”

She also revealed that she loves “being supportive” after being prodded about joining the Weeknd for part of his tour. Added Gomez, “I love just being there and having someone’s back. It feels good. I haven’t had that feeling in awhile.”

And as for the star’s ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber? Gomez only had kind words, praising Bieber’s performance during the empowering One Love Manchester concert held on Sunday in the U.K. in honor of the victims of last month’s terror attack.

“It was beautiful,” gushed Gomez to Sirius. “I thought everyone did such a beautiful job, it was so gorgeous. I loved how [Ariana Grande] ended it. I thought Justin did great. It was really beautiful.”
