FIRST LOOK: Check Out Brendon Urie in His Kinky Boots Costume — Underwear, Thigh-High Stilettos and All!

Posted on

Brendon Urie is ready to take his place as Broadway’s newest (rock) star.

The Panic! at the Disco frontman will make his Broadway debut in Kinky Boots on May 26, and PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at him in character, complete with a pair of ruby-red, thigh-high stilettos! Through Aug. 6, Urie will star as Charlie Price, a shoe factory owner who befriends a drag queen named Lola who helps him save his family’s business.

A musical theater aficionado, the rocker, 30, has been a fan of the Cyndi Lauper-scored musical since the first time he saw it.

“I used to dream about this day. Just being a part of musical theater — so this literally is a dream come true,” Urie — who married Sarah Orzechowski in 2013 — said in a behind-the-scenes clip ahead of his first performance.

“What drew me to the show was when I saw it, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. It moved me so much, that end moment, the finale — I felt like, I want to get up and shout and celebrate life. That feeling resonated within me, and I wanted to be a part of it. The message is so clear. It’s so relatable,” he added. “When audiences leave Kinky Boots, I hope they feel that passion that I felt, that was like a fire inside of my chest. If you want to laugh, if you want to cry, if you want to feel something so strong at the end of a show, then come to the show. It’s just incredible.”

Urie is, of course, no stranger to performing live. Last year, Panic! released its Frank Sinatra-inspired fifth LP Death of a Bachelor, which scored a best rock album Grammy nod. And in April, the band wrapped an impressive 36-city arena tour, during which Urie flaunted his powerhouse vocals — and killer falsetto — on the punk-pop act’s hits, new tunes and, most impressively, a cover of Queen’s classic “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
