After taking a career hiatus at the end of August to focus on her emotional health, Selena Gomez made her (very glam) return to the limelight at the American Music Awards on Sunday and her fans could not have been more excited to see her.

While Gomez never officially confirmed she’d be attending the awards show, admirers anticipated her return … and went crazy when photos of her getting ready for the show starting circulating on the Internet. Gomez seemed to be in great spirits, taking pictures and videos with fans, as she made her way down the carpet. And Twitter completely lost it.

Last month, multiple sources confirmed the entertainer — who is nominated for artist of the year and favorite pop/rock female artist — was seeking professional help to get back into a positive headspace.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” the singer and actress, 24, told PEOPLE in a statement at the time. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”

“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues,” she continued.
The American Music Awards air live on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC
