Vanessa Hudgens may sing and dance in her next film, but don’t expect it to be like High School Musical.
The actress, 19, is set for the role of Sam in Will, a coming-of-age story about a high school rock band made up of misfits, says the Hollywood Reporter.
Set to begin production next month in Austin, the movie is described as a dramedy about a popular girl forming a rock band with a bunch of young outcasts who come together over their love of music and compete in a local Battle of the Bands.
Hudgens’s role is that of a 15-year-old former stutterer who gets involved with the lead outcast.
Later this year, Hudgens will resume her role as Gabriella Montez in the third installment of High School Musical, this time for theatrical release, rather than airing on TV’s Disney Channel.
