How do you prepare to preside over the jury at the world’s most famous film festival?
According to Edward Scissorhands director Tim Burton, “after spending my early life watching triple features and 48-hour horror movie marathons, I’m finally ready for this.”
Tuesday’s announcement that Burton, 51, will serve as president of the May 12-23 63rd Cannes Film Festival comes as his much-awaited Alice In Wonderland – starring pal Johnny Depp, among others – is being prepped to land in theaters March 5. At the moment, a retrospective of his work is also on display to S.R.O. crowds at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
“When you think of Cannes, you think of world cinema. And, as films have always been like dreams to me, this is a dream come true,” Burton, whose films often deal in dreams (and nightmares) said in a statement.
