Like most children born after the world was introduced to Luke Skywalker and the gang, Riz Ahmed was exposed to a galaxy far, far away early on.
Although The Night Of star admits that as a 6-year-old boy it was hard to grasp the plot of the Star Wars films, he says the films created a lasting effect.
“I just remember kind of surreal flicker book of imagery – it formed some of my earliest memories,” Ahmed says. “It’s just the images and the iconic situations and worlds that really stayed with me and really spurred on my own imagination.”
Ahmed says the films inspired him and his brother to create their own “action movies” around the house growing up, but there’s no longer a need to pretend. The 33-year-old British actor will soon join the Star Wars universe in Rogue One as pilot Bodhi Rook.
The new blockbuster serves as a reunion of sorts for Ahmed and costar Felicity Jones, who attended college together.
“I used to run club nights at university…and she used to be a regular at those nights,” he shares.
However, when it comes to taking down Darth Vader, another costar comes to mind: Forest Whitaker.
“I don’t want to mess with Forest Whitaker,” he says. “Do you?”
