Richard Gere is positively unrecognizable under brightly colored scarves and piles of hair while on set in Philadelphia filming Franny.

The former PEOPLE Sexiest Man Alive typically dons a more clean-cut style, though he did experiment with longer hair in 1988 and 1991.

Judging from his costume, which includes monogrammed slippers and a bright-yellow pocket square, his character appears to have an eccentric fashion sense.

The film is reportedly about a hedonist (Gere) who tries to befriend a young couple, played by Dakota Fanning and Theo James.

Gere, 64, recently split from wife Carey Lowell after 11 years of marriage. They had been living apart for some time, with Gere at the couple’s home in Bedford N.Y., and Lowell, 52, staying at their historic mansion in North Haven, N.Y.
