The Muppets Take on Twitter Trolls in Latest Muppets Most Wanted Trailer

If you watched the Golden Globes on Sunday night, you’ll know that Muppets Most Wanted was totally shut out when it came to nominations. Of course, this is because the movie doesn’t come out until March, but still – The Muppets aren’t too happy about it.

The latest trailer for the upcoming film, which debuted during the 2014 Golden Globes broadcast, finds fans of the eponymous puppets arguing about the lack of respect given to the film during the 2013 awards season. (For the record, the franchise itself hasn’t exactly been snubbed by the award-giving elite: The Muppets’s 2011 comeback won an Oscar for Best Song in 2012.) In classic online form, the dispute soon devolves into a cavalcade of misspelling, name-calling and spam links, from such wits as @HotFudge1218 and @Babybean1128.

Is it good business for a movie to announce itself to the public by making fun of its fans? Probably not, but it is fun nonetheless, and to The Muppets, that’s what counts.

Watch the trailer for Muppets Most Wanted above. The film comes out March 21.
