Matthew McConaughey – is that you?
There’s an explanation for the Oscar-winning actor’s apparent (and head-scratching) new weight gain.
The typically trim star packed on a few pounds for his role as Kenny Wells, a struggling businessman, in Gold.
In a first look from the film, directed by Stephen Gaghan, a very wet (and seemingly balding) McConaughey chats with Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez.
McConaughey’s Wells, who fancies himself a modern-day prospector, teams up with Ramirez’s luckless geologist in an effort to find gold in the heart of Indonesia’s uncharted jungles in the film.
Gold, from production company Black Bear Pictures, is slated for a fall 2016 release and will be distributed by TWC-Dimension.

The 45-year-old caused a stir when he stepped out in New York City on Wednesday with Camila Alves in some baggy khakis, leading the Internet to speculate that the father of three may have embraced a dad bod.
McConaughey is no stranger to body transformations. He famously lost over 30 lbs. for his Academy Award-winning turn as an AIDS patient in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club.
