In the first look released Monday, a guitar-playing Cooper looks on as Gaga sings into a microphone while sporting dark hair and a much more low-key look than the singer typically flaunts during her performances.
Gaga — who seems to be going by her real name Stefani Germanotta for the film — will play Ally, Cooper’s love interest as the two embark on their road to fame. But as Ally’s stardom begins to eclipse Jackson Maine’s (Cooper), the struggling artist must come to terms with the fact that his spotlight might be dimming.
This is the fourth time the story of the rocker and his girlfriend is hitting the big screen after previous versions were released in 1937, 1954 and 1976. Janet Gaynor played Gaga’s role in the first version, while Judy Garland famously took over the part for the celebrated 1954 redo. Kris Kristofferson, meanwhile, played Jackson in the 1976 remake opposite Barbra Streisand.

It was announced over the weekend that Gaga and Cooper would be filming scenes from the movie at Coachella, where Gaga is performing. Festivalgoers will be given the chance to appear in the scene later this week, which will be made to look like a Western concert, according to Deadline.
Gaga took over headlining duties from Beyoncé at the festival after the mom-to-be was forced to drop out due to her pregnancy with twins.
A Star Is Born will hit theaters on Sept. 28, 2018.
