All hail, the Clooneys!

George Clooney and wife Amal looked picture perfect on their date night at the Hail, Caesar! premiere at the Regency Theatre in Hollywood on Monday.

At the red carpet event, the actor looked dapper in head-to-toe black while the human rights lawyer was a standout in a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture 6 floral red-and-white minidress.

“Let’s face it. She’s got to look at this like … ‘I’ll be in there if you need me,’ ” he joked to PEOPLE about all the red carpet mania. “That’s why she runs in when you get here.”

Taking a more pensive tone, the Oscar winner said he’s grateful for his wife’s unwavering understanding.

“I think she appreciates the work because one thing I think people never quite understand is when you’re doing it, it is actually a lot of work and takes a long time to do,” he said. “And because she’s seen me working behind the camera a lot, she’s seen that it’s an ongoing process. So I think she understands that.”

The married couple have been very supportive of each another, with George most recently praising Amal on her big legal victory.

“The president of the Maldives was let out of prison, because of a lot of the hard work that [Amal] was doing,” he shared.

Clooney, 54, was joined by his costars Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Josh Brolin and Alden Ehrenreich.

The Coen Brothers film stars Clooney as movie star Baird Whitlock who vanishes from the set of his 1950s-set comedy, Hail Caesar, a Tale of Christ s Life, prompting a studio fixer (Brolin) to rally some of Hollywood’s biggest names to rescue Whitlock.

Besides reuniting with writer-directors Joel and Ethan since O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Clooney revealed he was also excited about his costume.

“The fantasy was to wear the leather skirt. That was my fantasy,” he jokes with PEOPLE also adding, “I don’t know an actor that the Coen brothers would come to and say, ‘Hey, I’ve got a movie for you to be in and if you want to do it,’ that would say no. I mean, that’s the truth.”

Hail, Caesar! hits theaters Feb. 5.
