Anna Kendrick recently poked fun at her single status tweeting; “Hi, I’m Anna, I’m alone tonight and I’m looking for a strapping man to come over because butternut squash is hard to dice.”
At Wednesday’s New York premiere of her new film Mr. Right she explained the meaning behind her mysterious tweet.
“I just thought it would be funny to start a tweet really sexual and end it on something really practical,” the actress told PEOPLE.
Kendrick, 30, also admitted that she hasn’t always had the best luck in the dating game.
“I’ve had a couple of crazy experiences,” she tells PEOPLE. “I don’t think you can be a female and reach the age of 25 without having the guy that you’re, like, ‘Oh, I’m going to carry mace around for a little while.’ And you break up with him, and you’re like, ‘Okay, I’m going to lock my doors at night, because the dude is crazy.’ ”
How would Kendrick describe her real life Mr. Right? “Somebody capable!” she says. “You’d be amazed what women are willing to settle for if the guy is just capable, can take care of himself and isn’t a cry baby. Just a nice guy who can manage his own life.”
Kendrick’s costar, Sam Rockwell, also recalled a high school date that quickly went from good to bad, and ended with his date being sick. “That was pretty intense,” he says. “Too many wine coolers.”
In their new romantic comedy in theaters Friday, Kendrick and Rockwell show off some dance moves and Kendrick says she was really impressed by Rockwell.
“I’m much more controlled and OCD and Sam really likes to wing it,” Kendrick says. “But once we started, Sam is so great, all I had to do was kind of let him lead. Sam could be on Dancing with the Stars. He’s so good.”
