In Maleficent, Jolie stars as the villain from Sleeping Beauty, a wicked sorceress who places a curse on Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning). The movie also marks her daughter Vivienne’s acting debut, with the 5-year-old stepping in as young Aurora. Told with a Wicked-like twist, this live-action version tells the story of how the sweet, young Maleficent changed into a vengeful sorceress.
Due out May 30, 2014, the movie will be the Oscar-winner’s first onscreen role since 2010’s The Tourist.
Currently, she is directing Unbroken in Australia while Brad Pitt shoots Fury in the U.K. For the past couple of months, the two have been juggling work and family, with the kids spending time in both locations.
This weekend, the star will be honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences along with Angela Lansbury and Steve Martin at the Governor’s Awards, with Jolie receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
