New York City Police Officer Andrew Dossi had a lot to be thankful for on Thursday after he proposed to his girlfriend at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Dossi, 32, got down on one knee nearly two years after being shot in the line of duty, choosing to pop the question during Thursday’s 90th annual parade — with his 10-year-old daughter by his side and fellow officers looking on, according to the New York Daily News.
“She said yes!!!” shared the NYPD on their official Twitter account, captioning a shot of the sweet moment. “Officer Dossi proposed to his girlfriend alongside the NYPD Band at today’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Congrats!”
Dossi was shot by an armed robber in the left arm and lower back on Jan. 5, 2015, reported the Daily News. The Army reservist, who served two tours of duty in Iraq, was hospitalized for 11 days.
He’s currently assigned to the NYPD’s Intelligence division.

“The family’s very happy for the both of them,” Dossi’s sister, Tennille, told the Daily News. “Andrew has had an amazing recovery in the past two years, and this is a really happy time for him and her, and we wish everybody the best.”
The happy couple celebrated Thursday night, with Tennille keeping it all in perspective: “He worked extremely hard to get where he is today.”
