The video of a great white shark becoming trapped in a diving cage has gone viral for its fear factor, but the man who was in the cage with the animal is ready to get back in the water.
Chinese diver Ming Chan was diving at Guadalupe Island, off the coast of Mexico, when a large shark diving after bait became entangled in the cage. After about 20 seconds of sharing the confined space, the shark was able to escape through the top hatch and Chan emerged from the cage unscathed.
“I’m very lucky to survive, and nothing gets hurt,” Chan said in an interview with Today.
Although he says he didn’t have time to be scared, he felt nothing but “panic” from the shark.
To make matters worse, Chan says there were also two other sharks swimming below the cage.
Despite the shark encounter gone wrong, the Shanghai resident says he wasn’t afraid to get back in the water.
“I must get back to the cage the next day,” he says, and he told the New York Times that’s exactly what he did.
Luckily, Chan had diving experience and was able to remain calm during the scary circumstance.
