Sterling K. Brown's Made Over Man Cave
“It’s going to go in the garage, but that’s not a bad thing,” Sterling K. Brown, 41, told PEOPLE of his brand new Golden Globe at the official viewing and after party hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the Wilshire Garden at the Beverly Hilton.
“I have a display case,” he explained. Here's a peak inside his "man cave of sorts."
“It became a bit of a weigh station for things we didn’t want in the house, specifically things my wife didn’t want in the house,” he says of the cluttered catchall that sits outside he and wife Ryan Michelle Bathe’s California home.
With help from the inexpensive furnishings site Apt2B and interior designer Kyle Schuneman, Brown, 41, now has a made-over man cave where he can work and unwind after a long day on set. “It’s sort of my escape,” he says.

BEFORE: Cluttered Catchall
Before, mismatched furniture, storage boxes and a ping pong table dominated the space. “It didn’t have any unity,” the St. Louis native says. “It’s hard to find peace of mind in clutter.” Adds Schuneman, “It felt like a storage unit.”

Now, the dad of two has a quiet spot where he can retreat when he needs to work or clear some head space. “It’s a nice spot to meditate and get your bearings together before you go back into the fire pit that is my two kids,” he jokes of his sons, Andrew and Amaré.

The design balances masculine tones with midcentury pops of color for an elevated-cool feel. At first, Brown was hesitant about the mustard yellow sofa. “But when I see it with everything else, it pops,” he says. “And it goes with the blue perfectly.”

Swapping his ping pong table for a real desk was a must, but the update that the American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson star was most excited was more play than work. “I have an appropriate display case finally for my Emmy, which has been stuck in a closet,” he told PEOPLE in September, adding that it’s prominent but inconspicuous at the same time. “I’m fairly modest and falsely modest, so it’s nice to see it, but not have it take up the space.” Now, the actor will have to make room for a second golden trophy. Sunday night, he became the first black actor to win a Golden Globe for a TV drama.
