Marriage is all about compromise for Lauren Conrad and her husband, William Tell.

After the couple couldn’t come to an agreement on a sofa for their cozy California home, they had one custom built based on a photo she found online. Tell, 36, gave in to Conrad’s request for white, but with one caveat:

“The only way that my husband agreed to a white couch was if we had it upholstered in Sunbrella fabric,” Conrad, 30, tells MyDomaine. “Looking back, it was probably a good call.”

Conrad has gone from starring on The Hills to living atop them, and her white, bright home that overlooks the Pacific Palisades is no exception to the fashion designer’s Instagram-worthy style.

“I like my living space to feel clean but welcoming,” she says. “I feel like your home should be a representation of your style, so I like to include personal items throughout.”

A clean-lined kitchen with stain-resistant Mystery White marble is perfect for Conrad, who calls herself, “a hurricane in the kitchen.” Above the generously sized dining room table sits her collection of vintage bottles and antique teacups that she somehow sneaked by Tell. “I’m not sure how my husband let me keep it there,” she says. “I just sort of unpacked it there and then didn’t say anything, and he was really cool about it.”

Conrad was also dedicated to keeping the abode’s Spanish style intact. “I think when you try to completely change a space to be something it’s not, it doesn’t look as natural; it looks look a little awkward,” she says. “So I wanted to work with what was here and customize it.”

While the house is private enough to “feel like a getaway,” for Conrad, who admits she can “tend to over-commit myself,” the entertaining guru still loves to host her friends and family at her relaxing retreat. “I love that it’s a great space to entertain both inside and out,” she says.
