Casey Wilson had quite the homecoming!

The actress, 36, moved in with her now husband David Caspe, 38, four years ago, and she tells PEOPLE that the writer-producer had a super-sweet surprise in store for her upon arrival.

“I moved in and on the same day he asked me to marry him,” she says, joking that he waited until “the very last second” to make things official.

Although the former Marry Me actress says Caspe is “very into design,” she admits that the three-bedroom, four-bathroom abode’s original aesthetic didn’t exactly line up with hers.

“I just love color, but he’s a very sophisticated guy,” she says of the formerly gray and monochromatic space. “If I had my way it would probably look like a Warner Brothers costume shop exploded, so we came together and were able to meld our styles.”

The layout sufficed for the couple through their newlywed phase and through the birth of their first son, Max, 2. But after getting pregnant with her second child — a boy, due in September — Wilson wanted to spruce up a few spare rooms to better serve her growing family.

“It needed a once-over,” she admits. Décor and furniture from HomeGoods were just the updates she needed in her rec room and new nursery, transforming the previously undefined areas into functional spots for the crew to unwind together.

“We all like to get on the couch with lots of pillows and read books, and have some laughs,” she says. “It’s really the best part of life.”
