“We like a good party, and so that’s a good amount of empty calories,” Doute tells PEOPLE. “I’m not the person who after a night of partying wants fast food. I’d rather have watermelon and cucumbers.”
The reality star, who recently launched her vegetarian lifestyle blog Vegiholic, is now dedicated to teaching others her healthy cooking secrets — which she tests out on her cast mates. “They like to eat whatever I make for them. That’s the rule,” she says. “My whole mantra is just to be open-minded and try new things. You can train your own brain to like the things you thought you wouldn’t.”
It’s a move that’s been 22 years in the making for Doute, who gave up meat at age 11. Though she ultimately followed a quite different career trajectory, she originally wanted to be a marine biologist. “I loved animals so much; I couldn’t imagine eating one,” she says. “It broke my heart. I couldn’t do it anymore.”
In true form, Doute also has a section of her blog titled “Rants,” which she uses to sound off on various topics. For her first post, she calls out online bullies for shaming her and her cast mates for their weight, citing a recent Instagram post in which she joked about being pregnant — and was inundated with mean comments.
“The more popular social media becomes and the more outlets that we have, I feel like it’s just getting worse,” she says, citing the story of Playboy playmate Dani Mathers body shaming a woman in her gym locker room on Snapchat. “It’s very hurtful and I’ve had enough of it.”
It’s a topic that’s particularly poignant given the show’s season premiere episode, in which Doute’s ex James Kennedy fat shames her cast mate Katie Maloney. “It was awful,” she says of the incident. “I mean, Katie’s a size 4. He’s going on and calling her overweight, it’s like what message are you sending to anyone who is a size 4 or bigger?”

As for what we can expect to come, Doute says this is her “favorite season” yet. “The dynaminc of the OGs, the core cast, is amazing. My relationship with Tom [Sandoval] and Ariana [Madix] is a very interesting journey that I think fans are going to be a little surprised about. I feel like it’s kind of come full circle from season 1.”
You can catch Vanderpump Rules on Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
