Michelle Obama and Ina Garten Bonding Over Lunch Will Give You Pure Joy

Updated

Ina Garten and First Lady Michelle Obama became the ultimate #ladieswholunch when they filmed an episode of Barefoot Contessa in the White House on October 5.

In the first released clip from the upcoming one-hour special, Barefoot in Washington, Garten and Obama discuss life after the presidency while sipping on tea in the State Dining Room.

“I know it’s going to be wonderful for you. You’re going to do something extraordinary going forward,” Garten tells Obama.

Sharing a sentiment with anyone who has ever watched Garten cook, Obama quipped back: “Yeah, I’m going to come and eat at your house! So don’t be surprised!”

But Garten has advice of her own for the soon-to-be former First Lady. “I do hope you and the president are going on a really long, really romantic vacation,” Garten says.

The Food Network star was invited to attend the official White House Kitchen Garden dedication, which celebrated both the garden and Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative.

Another highlight of the trip? Meeting Bo and Sunny, the Obama family’s dogs.

Sharing a special moment before eating vegetable tarts and salad wraps with greek yogurt feta cheese dip — using vegetables right from the White House garden — Garten thanks Obama for her work. “You’ve inspired girls all over the world, including me, so thank you.”

The special airs on November 5 at 1 p.m. ET on the Food Network.
