TAKING THE CAKE
While flying solo at the season one wedding of a friend, Ted hits it off with guest Victoria (Ashley Williams), whom he nearly kisses until she insists she'd rather keep their one night of flirting chaste. The next day, realizing he wants to pursue a relationship, Ted badgers members of the wedding party to learn her full identity until the bride inadvertently tips him off: Revealing the wedding cake was made by Buttercup Bakery, Ted remembers Victoria gave "buttercup" as a nickname, and reunites with the pastry chef.

Having secretly sipped wife Lily's fruity cocktails for years, Marshall finally musters the courage to order his own at MacLaren's Pub in season eight, requesting an elaborate mix of coconut rum, peach schnapps, vanilla vodka, strawberry creme liqueur, cranberry juice and sugar garnished with maraschino cherries and served in a tall, stemmed glass with a swirly straw. Hoping to christen the drink the Minnesota Tidal Wave, Marshall is surprised to learn that the concoction already has a name: the Robin Scherbatsky, an ode to Robin's frequent orders.

TASTE OF CHINA
Having essentially moved in with Marshall and Ted at the start of season one, Lily returns to her apartment with new pal Robin only to see that it has been transformed into a Chinese restaurant named Madame Chew's House of Dumplings. Per the owners, Lily's landlord passed away and since she never responded to notices, her belongings and furniture were put to use in the restaurant – Marshall's mix-tape even serves as the place's ambient music.

In a bid to cheer up Marshall about his career prospects, the gang helps him search for the best burger in New York in a season four episode that also featured a guest appearance from Regis Philbin. Having tasted the burger eight years ago when he first moved to the city, Marshall failed to properly remember its location, causing present-day Ted, Lily, Barney, Robin, Marshall and Philbin, an equal enthusiast about the burger, to zigzag across the city until a chance encounter finally directs them to the right eatery.

In season seven, Ted stumbles upon a costume shop with an indecent Halloween get-up displayed in the window – the slutty pumpkin. Having hit it off with a woman wearing the same ensemble six seasons earlier, he tracks down the last person to rent the outfit and comes face-to-face with his mystery lady: Naomi, played by guest star Katie Holmes. Turns out, Naomi has been searching for Ted too, but the sparks both parties experienced in season one fail to withstand the test of time.
