Oreo Just Launched a New Flavor—And Is Letting Fans Choose Its Next One

After a flurry of Internet rumors made the rounds earlier this year, we can officially confirm that Firework Oreos are very real.

The new limited-edition cookie, which hits stores nationwide on May 8, is like your standard chocolate Oreo with a creme center—but with the added bonus of rainbow specks of popping candy in it. (We’ve tried it, and it’s surprisingly subtle.)

But that’s not all, friends. The company also dropped the bomb that they’re letting fans choose the next flavor. In a similar vein to Lay’s successful Do Us a Flavor campaign, you can now enter your dream Oreo idea using the hashtags #MyOreoCreation #Contest. In addition to bragging rights, the winner will get $500,000 and “unprecedented fan access to top-secret Oreo creations.”

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Ellie Kemper is even getting in on the action, filming an ad for the campaign in which she comes up with a mango-coconut flavor called “Island Getaway.”

“Our newest limited-edition flavor got us thinking – if we can create a Firework Oreo cookie, what else could we create? And who better to ask than those who are already sharing their flavor and creation ideas,” said Madeline Vincent, the company’s brand manager. “We’ve always loved hearing and seeing our fans’ ideas and now we’re thrilled to merge that passion and creativity with Oreo innovation to come up with future creations.”

Oreo will choose three finalists who will win $25,000 each and see their idea hit retail shelves in May 2018 for consumers to try. The final winner will be chosen by fan votes in July.
