For many of us, the crunchy Magic Shell was a childhood ice cream topping necessity. Well, we have good news: You’re just two ingredients away from that nostalgic dessert bliss using this hack.
Simply melt together chocolate with coconut oil (which hardens at lower temperatures, hence creating the shell), pour on ice cream, and get ready to crack.
For our recipe, we added some chopped salted peanuts for an extra crunchy, savory kick — but that’s totally optional. You can omit it all together or swap with your favorite nut or other mix-in. And if you’re more of a milk or dark chocolate fan, feel free to swap that in for the semi-sweet chips. You do you!

DIY Chocolate Shell Recipe
In a bowl, stir together 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and 2 tbsp. coconut oil. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted. Stir in ½ cup chopped salted peanuts, if desired. Pour on your favorite ice cream and let set until hardened, about 30 seconds.
